More than 2,200 schools entered the national competition, which saw the Manor team progressing successfully through a qualifying round, the Yorkshire knockouts and the regional finals for the North of England and Scotland, ultimately qualifying as one of the four national finalists.

The finals took place over two days in December 2022, at Bolton Arena. Unfortunately, despite playing some fantastic tennis, Manor鈥檚 opponents, Queenswood, Repton and Prior Park, all proved too strong, and the Manor team finished in a very commendable fourth place.

PE teacher at 呦女视频, Pat Tasker said 鈥淭he girls can be very proud to have reached the final. They played some amazing tennis winning most of their qualifying matches in style! With more than 2,200 schools starting in the competition, it was a fantastic achievement to finish last year as the top state school team in the UK.

鈥淗aving said that, the girls were probably more excited at the fact that they got a good luck video message from famous tennis coach, Judy Murray wishing them luck for the finals!

The team would like to thank York Auction Centre who sponsored their competition kit.

呦女视频 opens newly created space /opening-2023/ Thu, 12 Jan 2023 11:38:10 +0000 /?p=11674 呦女视频 has officially opened a newly created space to fulfil the increased demand for student places. 聽

呦女视频, which is part of the 呦女视频 (HSLT), has seen increasing demand for student places over the last few years.聽As a result, the team at HSLT and Manor聽worked closely with City of York Council聽on聽plans to accommodate the bulge in secondary age students moving through the city at the current time. To support the school in accommodating聽the anticipated聽numbers, essential reconfiguration聽work聽to the school environment took place during the latter half of 2022.

The 拢1.1million project has provided聽better circulation,聽a聽new classroom by adapting existing ancillary space and an expanded dining area聽by adding a roof and floor to the former聽outside 鈥榬otunda鈥 area.聽 As an indoor space, the rotunda聽is already being used by Year 11 students during break and lunch times as a dedicated social space for their year group聽and by teachers as intervention areas.

Following a tender process, Wetherby firm, The Together Group Construction Ltd were appointed as approved contractors for the project, alongside York-based design and project management specialists, Gate & Bar Ltd.

The official opening took place on Monday 9 January 2023. Speakers included Helen Winn, CEO of 呦女视频 who welcomed guests, Liz Mastin, Interim Principal at 呦女视频, and Martin Kelly OBE, Corporate Director of Children Services and Education at City of York Council, who declared the new facilities open with a traditional ribbon cutting.

Liz Mastin, said 鈥淭his has been an extensive but much-needed project within the heart of the school. A project of this size is always challenging, but even more so when the school is fully operational, but thankfully we had a fantastic project team who all worked together brilliantly. I鈥檇 like to thank everyone who has been involved in making this project such a success. It鈥檚 wonderful to see our students enjoying the space and moving through the building in a calmer, safer fashion.鈥

Martin Kelly said 鈥淭his project has been a true showcase of collaboration in action with all partners working together to create a stunning space. The end result is one of the most creative projects I have seen in a school and I look forward to hearing how the Manor team utilises the space as part of their delivery of excellent education.鈥

The Together Group鈥檚 Managing Director, Steven Withy, added 鈥淭his has been a fantastic project to work on from start to finish. The whole team worked together so well and it鈥檚 testament to the staff from the school and the trust that everything went so smoothly. We did have a couple of challenges, including working on one of the hottest days of last year, and getting a huge steel framework into the building so that we could transform the unused rotunda, but nothing we couldn鈥檛 handle! We鈥檙e very proud of the end result.鈥

Nathan Hughes, Director at Gate & Bar Ltd said 鈥淲e were involved with the design and project management of the additional dining space at the school. Following a feasibility study, the disused rotunda was identified as the preferred location as it was adjacent to the existing dining area and servery. The challenging design maximises natural day lighting and circulation space between the ground and first floors. The two spaces have a distinct separation with a more grown-up feel upstairs and a typical cafeteria feel downstairs. We鈥檙e delighted that the project was completed both on time and within budget, with limited impact on the school.鈥

Students in Year 11 at Manor have exclusive use of the first floor of the newly extended dining space. They said 鈥淲e love the new space, it鈥檚 so much better! Before, we really struggled to get a seat at lunchtime and now it鈥檚 much easier to find somewhere to sit and eat. It鈥檚 really nice that Year 11s have an exclusive place where we can get together, but it would also be good if the space could be used for other things in the future, maybe as a study space, group work, a place to meet visitors and maybe somewhere we could host small events.

鈥淲e鈥檝e already noticed a big difference in the flow of traffic when we have lesson changeover. It used to be a bit of a squash on the main staircase, but now we have an additional staircase, it feels much safer, especially for the younger students.鈥聽 聽聽
